American International School in Israel - Even Yehuda

The American International School in Israel offers four karate classes per week to enrolled students as part of its after-school activities program. The classes are taught by Sensei Fred Schlomka. The program includes bi-annual testing of the students, a December tournament with students from the Poleg dojo, and participation in the TKFI's annual tournament.

Sensei Fred has been studying martial arts for twelve years and is a Black Belt in Shotokan Karaté, a traditional form of Japanese karaté originating on the Japanese island of Okinawa. He is a Board Member of the Traditional Karaté Federation of Israel, and affiliated with the International Traditional Karaté Federation (ITKF).

Sensei Fred has taught karaté in Minnesota and was an assistant instructor for self-defense classes for women. In addition to teaching at the American International School, he also gives private lessons at his home studio in Kfar Saba.

Sensei Fred currently trains with Sensei Moshe Rokah in Netanya, Israel, and was awarded his Black Belt by Sensei Avi Rokah who travels from Los Angeles to Israel twice a year to conduct seminars and testing. Prior to moving back to Israel in 2000 Sensei Fred trained with Sensei Joel Ertle (6th degree Black belt) and Sensei Robert Fusaro (7th degree Black Belt), in Minnesota. Sensei Fusaro was one the first Americans to receive a black belt from Master Hideka Nishiyama while serving in the US armed forces in Japan in 1954. Master Nishiyama was a student of the founder of Shotokan karaté, Master Funakoshi, and is the Chairman of the International Traditional Karaté Federation. He first brought Shotokan Karaté to the United States from Japan in the 1950s.
